My husband Cesar and our good friend Erika and I recently checked out El Muellecito located on Avenida Bonampak in Cancun. We were VERY impressed! We had passed by it several times and it always had lots of people so we thought it was time to see what all the hype was about for this fairly new seafood/bar restaurant.
El Muellecito, (which means little dock in Spanish) though located in the heart of downtown Cancun, built their restaurant to resemble a restaurant on a dock. They even have a photo mural of a continuing dock over the Caribbean ocean to give the illusion that you are eating on the beach. They have a large outdoor area and an air-conditioned indoor area as well as a large upstairs to accommodate bigger groups.
Their menu is varied and with a focus on seafood though you can also find burgers, chicken and meat items. We tried several of their seafood tacos as well as the tuna tartar, and we shared a huge plate of crispy fries. Everything tasted great! They have 4 yummy salsas (tamarind, habanero, chipotle, and mango) and you can order drinks by the glass or by the liter. You can also order a bottle of spirits if you are with a group of friends. The prices are very reasonable and their portions are generous. There is a mix of people and varied music to create an overall fun atmosphere.
Our waiter informed us that on Thursdays they have an all-you-can-eat/drink buffet for 200 pesos (less than $20 CDN) which includes a selection of dishes (which change weekly) plus a selection of beers and spirits from 1pm until 5 pm. On Mondays and Tuesdays select beers are only 12 pesos (about $1 CDN) and finally…..if it is your birthday in June for example (mine is in June J) then every Wednesday for the month of June you can go with your friends and order a bottle (750ml) of select spirits and you just pay for the mixers. WHAT A DEAL!!!
We spent a fun rainy Sunday afternoon playing dominos and filling our bellies with tasty food and drinks. We will definitely be going back again to try the rest of their menu and we are looking forward to checking out their buffet one Thursday afternoon. I cannot rave enough about this place—a definite 5 on the Ashlie-Scale!

Sounds a great place Ashlie…definitely not a drive-by….will certainly give El Muellecito a visit…do they serve wine to go with all the yummy seafood dishes?
I didn’t see any wine on the drink menu and I am pretty sure it wouldn’t be included in the buffet. You would have to drink cheladas
Great yet again Ashlie, you will have to start charging for these Reviews or at least get your meals Free. The food sounds Mouth Watering Delicious. You could have a Column in a Magazine called Ashlies Star Ratings. You could make a Fortune xx Brilliant xx
That sure would be cool! What a fun job that would be but for the meantime we love checking out new places.
