Recently I spent the day at Xplor! For a long time now I have wanted to visit Xplor because of all the hype but until last month we hadn’t made the effort to go there until my kid sister came to Cancun for a wedding. Amy visited us in June and hubby and I organized a whirlwind tour of Cancun and the Yucatan to best show off some of the highlights of our region. We had an amazing time and more importantly I had the chance to get to know my youngest sister as a young woman.
When she and her boyfriend ended up in the Rivera Maya for a wedding I jumped at the chance to spend more time with her. So when they had a “free day” we picked them up and headed to Xplor. After paying for our tickets and donning our hard hats we set off on our adventure. We started out with the ATV course, which I loved, even though we were constantly blinded flying dirt and sawdust particles but I roared with laughter the whole way! When we finished the course we lowered ourselves into makeshift rafts and paddled around the impressive underground caverns posing for the numerous automatic photos at every turn.Next, we headed to the “river swim” all the while snapping photos and enjoying our time together.
After lunch we headed to the ZIP lines. We kitted up with our harnesses and listened attentively as our “teacher” gave us a quick lesson and then we were off climbing up the first of many stairwells until finally we arrived at our first jump off point. I can’t remember who went first but what a thrill!!! We continued zip lining experiencing many exhilarating moments that included soaring above the jungle and plunging into the cool, refreshing water of the underground cenote until finally we completed the circuit and after drying ourselves off we went to Puerto Aventuras.
We had taken Amy there on her last trip but this was Mike’s first visit to see the manatees, dolphins and sea lions. We finished off our day with huge lime margaritas and appetizers before driving them back to their hotel. It had been a great day full of fun and adventure and I was sorry to see it come to an end and as we drove home we started making plans for our next big outing.
Have you been to Explor?

I haven’t been to Explor yet! Heck, I still need to visit Xcaret and Xelha! Hahaha!! I suck, I know!!!
I think my first pick is Xcaret as I hear the night show is amazing!!!
All are great places I am sure
Looks like you had a great time with your sis!!!
Lauren,
There are so many great places to go in Cancun and the Riviera Maya and now that we always get local discounts it is finally possible to check them all out!
I loved reading this Blog (As always
); you sure did have a full day and it was great to know that the four of you spent it together.
Lovely pix, lovely day and a lovely visit with your youngest
sib Amy….it doesn’t get better than that!
That was an amazing experience in the under wather rivers, the highest canopy but not as amazing as the one in thailand in ko samui…
Looks Amazing! I’ll be sure to go the next time I’m there. The ziplining looks like sooooo much fun
We had such a great time there that we are already planning to go again.
I have NOT been to Xplor and I’m dying to go! I haven’t seen Xel Ha either! (I have, however, been to Xcaret like 10 times hahaha)
I can’t wait to try the zipline someday
Hi Laura,
The zip lines were our favourite at Xplor
Has anyone been to Garrafon park at Isla Mujeres? Any thoughts or comparisons?
Garrafon Park is very different from Xplor. I do recommend a visit to Isla Mujeres but if you are looking for lots of thrills and different activities to do all in one place then Xplor is the place to go to.
Hi Ashlie,
Questions: I am traveling to Cancun in the next 2 weeks for a 7 day stay with my daughter and a friend of hers, both 16, (Im early 40′s). They both go to boarding school so I never see my daughter and would love to plan some great meals and fun things to do with them. We are from NYC so I guess you could say we’re pretty spoiled as far as nice, hip, chic, fun restaurant go. They do not drink of course, (not really sure ha) but I love a nice glass of wine or a very good and strong (not sweet) margaritas. We are there for 7 days.
Im trying to plan ahead so Im not stuck relying on the concierge for recommendations. I’ve travelled a great deal so I have no concerns going on an adventure to a great restaurant off the beaten track. I could bore you with the restaurants I’ve researched but I think I’d rather have your 1st hand expertise as my guide. If you don’t mind giving me some insight on a few of your favorites I would greatly appreciate it.
Do you think they would like to go to the Ritz one night for a beach dinner or is this painfully boring? Maybe another night for some local fair like Habanaros? I would love to hear some great music too. Preferably live not disco. THANKS SO MUCH!!
Hi There!,
I will get back to you in detail via email in the next few days regarding must-see-and-do places to visit. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
Thanks for responding. I look forward to hearing from you!
I have sent you an email but it has a lot of links so let me know whether you receive it or not as it just may get filtered out as spam
Loved Xplor! I sure hurt the next day after all that climbing though! I’ve done Xelha and Xcaret too, personally Xelha is a bit “meh”, pretty place but not enough adventure. I can’t wait to do Hidden Worlds, that’s the next place to cross off my list! Keep up the adventures!
Hi Kelly,
Did they cancel your trip to Hidden Worlds then? You will definitely love it! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
I’m headed there in June. Who would you recommend we book our trip through? We can’t decide if we should reserve the adventure online or with the concierge when we get there.
If you book online you can usually get a discounted price
So sorry Tina…I am just coming across these messages now. I don’t know how they got lost. I do hope that you had a great trip here
Hi Ashlie,
Unfortunately i did not receive your email! I don’t know what went wrong its not in my span folder either.
How was your trip. Please post reviews and hints on likes and dislikes.
Does anyone have any input on Garrafon park?
